Video Interpreting … What IS IT? What CAN IT BE?
A four week online course: May 26 – June 27, 2008
 
Are you currently interpreting in Video Relay Service settings or Video Remote Interpreting settings? Are you interested in doing Video Interpreting? This online course is designed to provide information regarding parameters of video interpreting: Interpreting parameters, technology parameters, ergonomic parameter, and legal parameters. It provides a forum to talk about the non-proprietary issues involved with video interpreting along with seeking answers from current research that is available.

The course is taught completely online with weekly assignments and due dates.
 
Prerequisites:
This workshop is geared to experienced interpreters, but is open to interpreters at all levels.
 
Class Format:
Class is held through a course learning system that you access through the Internet. You do not need to be online at a specific time, but do need to set aside time weekly to participate. Participation is through class discussions, readings, and assignments. Class participants will post and respond to postings as part of the learning process.
 
Mary Henry Lightfoot, CI&CT, NIC Advanced, is an interpreter, interpreter educator, and mentor with over 20 years of experience. Currently, she is a staff interpreter at Gallaudet Interpreting Service as well as an instructor through Professional Programs. Mary Lightfoot is the past chair of the Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf, Video Interpreting Committee (2005 – 2007) and is a member of National Association of Black Interpreters (NAOBI) as well as Tele-Communication Services for the Deaf, Inc. (TDI). She encourages and promotes the infusion of technology with interpreting for enhancements to interpreting practice.
